It's Time for Broadband!

People are saying it: "Broadband will change your life." It really will. And by adding the proper security, you can have your high-speed cake and eat it, too. Here's some basics.

Broadband is an always-on, faster, and more reliable Internet connection.

These days, the most common way to get broadband is via DSL or a Cable connection. DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) connections use your existing phone line to provide a high-speed Internet connection at 1.5 megabytes per second. Cable broadband does a similar job by connecting to the Internet via the same cable network that provides your cable television.

Benefits of Broadband:

  • Incredible speed. Always on. Relatively inexpensive.
  • Broadband connections tend to be more robust than dial-up connections.
  • Dial-up Internet connections tie up a phone line while online; problem solved with broadband.
  • Faster, more reliable email. With broadband, you can download data faster, meaning you can receive larger files via email, without the "timeouts" associated with dial-up connections.
  • Streaming multimedia: Broadband delivers video without interruption.
